Total bacterial count in goat milk

The main study objectives of the project are to determine:

• If the Bactoscan (flow cytometry) can be used for total bacterial count (TBC) and somatic cell count (SCC) in goat milk.
• If gut health, metabolic and immunological factors of dairy goats around lambing are correlated with the total bacterial and somatic cell count in their milk.
• If there is a development of TBC and SCC over time at farm and individual goat level around the lambing period.
• If we find causes which influences the TBC/SCC, we can investigate if a feed intervention study can improve the TBC/SCC in individual goat milk.
