The role of complement in the development of immune-mediated neuropathies

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), and multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN), are immune-mediated disorders of the peripheral nerves. Despite differences in onset, neurological deficits, outcome, and response to treatment, the pathogenic role of antibodies and complement may represent a common pathophysiology. In this project, we will use iPSC-derived disease models and genetic approaches to characterize the effects of antibodies and complement to facilitate the development of improved treatment strategies for these immune-mediated neuropathies.
