Spread of resistance plasmids of highly resistant micro-organisms among the One-Health domains in the Netherlands

The main aim of this PhD project is to assess the spread of resistance-plasmids of HRMO between human, animal and environmental reservoirs in the Netherlands within a One Health framework. Additionally, this project aims to find novel resistance or virulence genes on plasmids that may enable HRMO spread. This analysis will be performed in the following steps: 1) By reconstructing the resistance plasmids of HRMO isolates collected between 2009-2022 in the Netherlands based on existing short-read and long-read data; 2) By analysing the HRMO plasmid origin, biology, spread, and occurrence in the One Health domains; 3) By generating a searchable, open-access plasmid database that can also be used by external researchers.
