ENDOMIX
The effects of mixtures of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on the immune system
We are all continuously exposed to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), for example through food and drink, consumer products and the environment. This exposure can cause adverse health effects. As a part of an European consortium, we will study how mixtures of EDCs of concern at physiological concentrations may initiate, worsen or perpetuate immune system-related diseases, such as allergy and inflammatory bowel disease. This will focus on modulation of innate immune responses and the gut. As such, research will involve intestinal cell culture models including organoids, the nematode C. elegans, and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
